Madeline grew up in North Carolina and attended Appalachian State University where she earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. She first became interested in midwifery care at a young age after learning about the Frontier Nurses working in the Appalachian Mountains. Madeline and her husband moved to Flagstaff after falling in love with the community during a travel nurse assignment. She is so excited for the opportunity to gain experience at the birthing center. In her spare time, Madeline loves to dance, travel, camp and snowboard!
Paola, originally from Santiago Chile, has been providing Childbirth education in Flagstaff since 2007. She began her nursing career in Tucson Az working in Labor & Delivery before moving with her family to Flagstaff in 2006 where her husband Yuri grew up. She has two sons, her oldest was born at the Tucson Birth Center & her youngest was born at home here in Flagstaff with the help of midwives. Both labors and deliveries were an extraordinarily beautiful & different experience. These experiences plus her love of teaching have helped her guide and teach other expectant parents. Since becoming a certified childbirth educator, Paola has had the opportunity of creating classes in English & Spanish. She is also a Zumba Fitness instructor & loves teaching Zumba in the community. In her spare time Paola & her family enjoy skiing and camping.

Amanda Carstens, RN, BSN

Amanda has been a nurse for 14 years with a background in pediatric critical care. She gave birth to her last child at the birth center and was transformed by the experience. She knew she needed to be a part of this magical team of caregivers. She has a passion for caring for families during life’s transitions and for making sure a mother’s voice is heard. She also has a dream of becoming a midwife someday! In her spare time she likes to spend time outdoors with her husband and four kids.

Adriana “Adri" grew up in Northern Arizona before heading to Lincoln, Nebraska to obtain her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. While in school, she discovered a passion for working in the community and fell in love with the magic of birth! In her spare time she loves to camp, hike, tend to her plants, read and bake.
