Paola San Martin, RN, CCEA

FBWC RN Birth Assistant & Postpartum Nurse, Certified Childbirth Educator

Katy H.’s interest in natural childbirth began at a young age as she and all of her siblings were born at home under the care of midwives.  She grew up in Flagstaff and moved to Tucson for her undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona.  After working for the Red Cross and travelling in South America, Katy H. returned to the University of Arizona to study nursing.  During nursing school, she had the opportunity to assist at the Tucson birth center and decided that one day she would work with midwives and patients desiring low-intervention, natural childbirth.  Upon graduation Katy H. began work as a Labor and Delivery nurse at the university medical center in Tucson.  In August 2018 she attended the birth of her niece at the Flagstaff Birth and Women’s Center and a year later joined the team! In her free time, Katy H. enjoys the outdoors, dancing, yoga, arts and crafts, and spending time with friends and family.

Paola, originally from Santiago Chile, has been providing Childbirth education in Flagstaff since 2007. She began her nursing career in Tucson Az working in Labor & Delivery before moving with her family to Flagstaff in 2006 where her husband Yuri grew up. She has two sons, her oldest was born at the Tucson Birth Center & her youngest was born at home here in Flagstaff with the help of midwives. Both labors and deliveries were an extraordinarily beautiful & different experience. These experiences plus her love of teaching have  helped her guide and teach other expectant parents. Since becoming a certified childbirth educator, Paola has had the opportunity of creating classes in English & Spanish. She is also a Zumba Fitness instructor & loves teaching Zumba in the community. In her spare time Paola & her family enjoy skiing and camping.
